Women empowerment
ISOKO Women’s Association
Our Story
When Emma, the founder of Terres d’Afrique Concierge Services (TDA), met Muriel, a Swiss citizen, they discovered a shared dream to empower women and create sustainable opportunities in rural Rwanda.
At the time, Emma owned a papaya farm and had started an apiculture project near Mugesera Lake, where she was already supporting local women through small farming activities. Inspired by Emma’s initiative, Muriel decided to purchase nearby land to help expand the vision and developed projects that would enable women to raise chickens, produce eggs, and engage in income‑generating activities to improve their families’ lives.
“‘ISOKO,’ meaning ‘source’ in Kinyarwanda, perfectly symbolizes both Emma’s return to her roots and the women’s journey toward independence.”
Muriel designed the association’s concept and structure, while Emma contributed her ideas and developed a program to help women gain hospitality skills, preparing the farm to welcome visitors and partners interested in empowering rural women through meaningful, sustainable experiences.
Today
ISOKO Women’s Association continues to grow but needs constant support to expand its activities and offer more opportunities to vulnerable women around Lake Mugesera. Thanks to the concierge experiences offered by TDA, visitors can meet the women of ISOKO and directly contribute to their empowerment — turning travel into a force for good.
ISOKO is above all a human adventure: a community of passionate, determined women planting the seeds of a better future.
